You've spent weeks studying. But one question keeps coming back: what would I actually score on the TOEFL right now? That question used to require paying $235 for the official test. Our free 20-minute test gives you a quick estimate — no sign-in needed to start.

What Is a TOEFL Score Predictor?

A TOEFL score predictor is a diagnostic tool that evaluates your English proficiency across Reading, Listening, Speaking, and Writing and generates an estimated score based on your performance. The best predictors don't give you a single number — they break performance down by section, identify specific weaknesses, and map results to TOEFL's scoring scale.

At English Test Practice, the free predictor uses 2026 TOEFL iBT task types and timing. When you finish, you see an estimated band range, a CEFR level, and your weakest skill. It is a practice estimate, not an ETS score.

How Accurate Are Score Predictors?

Accuracy depends entirely on two factors: the quality of practice questions and the scoring methodology. Low-accuracy predictors use simplified questions, score Writing and Speaking with keyword matching, and produce inflated scores that don't hold up on test day.

💡
We have not yet compared our estimates with candidates' official TOEFL results, so we do not publish an accuracy figure. Treat your result as a guide for what to study next, not as a guaranteed score.

The 20-Minute TOEFL Score Predictor: How It Works

A full TOEFL practice test takes about two hours. Our free predictor is shorter: a small set of Reading and Listening items that takes about 20 minutes (no more than 30). It gives you an estimated band range, not a full score. For a full score in all four sections, take a mock test with a Prep Pass.

  • ▸Step 1: Start the free test at /free-toefl-test. No sign-in needed to start.
  • ▸Step 2: Answer the questions: Complete the Words, Read in Daily Life, Listen and Choose a Response, and one Conversation.
  • ▸Step 3: See your result — an estimated band range, a CEFR level, and your weakest skill.

Reading Your Score Report: What Each Number Means

  • ▸Estimated band range (free test): A range, not a single score, based on Reading and Listening only.
  • ▸Section scores (mock tests): Reading, Listening, Speaking, and Writing reported separately. Many universities have minimum section requirements — this is critical, not just your total.
  • ▸CEFR level: on the 2026 scale, B2 (Upper Intermediate) is TOEFL band 4–4.5 and C1 (Advanced) is band 5–5.5 (ETS).
  • ▸Weakest skill: Shows which skill has the most room for improvement, so you know what to target first.

Using Your Score to Plan Your Study Schedule

Band (1–6)Focus
Below 3.5Foundational English skills first — vocabulary, grammar, daily reading — before TOEFL-specific prep.
3.5 – 4Solid English but limited TOEFL familiarity. Study section strategies and target your two weakest sections.
4.5 – 5Check your universities' requirements; many sit in this range. Focus on consistency through full mock tests.
5.5+Competitive for top programs. Fine-tune Speaking fluency and Writing precision under real test conditions.

Common Mistakes That Lower Your Predicted Score

  • ▸Spending too long on individual questions. TOEFL is timed — practicing without timing produces inflated estimates.
  • ▸Not reading the question before the passage. In Reading, knowing what you're looking for saves significant time.
  • ▸Speaking too slowly. Many students speak below the pace needed to complete their response in time.
  • ▸Repeating other students' ideas in the Academic Discussion task. Add a new point of your own and support it.

How to Improve Your Predicted Score

Improvement comes from consistent, targeted practice. Here's what works:

  • ▸Take a full mock test regularly (with a Prep Pass). Track results over time to see where your preparation is working.
  • ▸Review every wrong answer. Understand why each incorrect answer was wrong, not just what was right.
  • ▸Practice Speaking daily. Even 10 minutes of recording yourself and listening back shows you patterns you cannot notice while speaking.
  • ▸Write timed responses. 7 minutes for Write an Email, 10 minutes for Academic Discussion. No extra time.
