TOEFL practice test
Practise for the TOEFL iBT in the format used since January 2026: the 1–6 band scale and the new task types. Start with a free 20-minute test that needs no sign-up. It shows roughly where you stand before you commit to full mock tests. (TOEFL iBT scores are accepted by 13,500+ institutions in 160+ countries, according to ETS.)
Start free test (20 min) — Reading and Listening tasks, about 20 minutes, no sign-up to start. You get an estimated band range, your CEFR level and your weakest skill.

What is in the free 20-minute test
Reading: Complete the Words and Read in Daily Life.
Listening: Listen and Choose a Response and one conversation. Each recording plays once, as in the real test.
At the end you see an estimated band range on the 1–6 scale, your CEFR level and your weakest skill. The free test is a short test in its own format, not a full mock, and it has no Writing or Speaking.
What a full TOEFL mock test includes
A full mock follows the real section order: Reading, Listening, Writing, Speaking. The real test has about 90 minutes of base time and, by ETS's description, takes under two hours in total.
Full mock tests come with a TOEFL Prep Pass. You can take a mock one section at a time and continue later from where you stopped.
How practice tests are scored
Reading and Listening are marked automatically and turned into a band on the 1–6 scale. ETS does not publish how raw points convert to bands, so every band we show is an estimate.
With a pass, Writing and Speaking are scored by AI against rubrics based on ETS's published scoring guides. Speaking needs a working microphone. Treat these bands as practice estimates, not as a prediction of your official score.
Your overall band is the average of the four section bands, rounded to the nearest half band, the same rule ETS uses.
How to use practice tests well
Take the free test first, with headphones and without pausing. Then look at your weakest skill rather than the total.
Practise the task types behind that skill, then take a full mock under timed conditions. A few mocks spread across your preparation show progress better than many in one week.
Frequently asked questions
Is the TOEFL practice test free?
The 20-minute test is free and needs no sign-up to start. It covers Reading and Listening tasks. Full four-section mock tests, including Writing and Speaking, come with a TOEFL Prep Pass.
Is the practice test in the new 2026 TOEFL format?
Yes. It uses the task types ETS introduced in January 2026, such as Complete the Words, Read in Daily Life and Listen and Choose a Response, and reports bands on the 1–6 scale.
How long is the real TOEFL iBT test?
ETS says it takes under two hours. Approximate base times are Reading 30 minutes, Listening 29 minutes, Writing 23 minutes and Speaking 8 minutes.
Is my practice score an official TOEFL score?
No. Only ETS issues official TOEFL scores. Our results are estimates; the free test gives a band range rather than a single number.
How is the TOEFL overall score calculated?
It is the average of the four section bands, rounded to the nearest half band. For example, an average of 5.25 becomes 5.5. Our score calculator shows the rule step by step.
What does my band mean on the old 0–120 scale?
ETS publishes a comparison table between the 1–6 bands and the old 0–120 scale. Our score conversion page shows it with ETS's notes.
