Editorial policy
Articles on this site are published by the ETP Editorial Team. This page explains how they are made and checked.
Who writes the articles
The ETP Editorial Team is the team behind English Test Practice. We do not attach the name of a person to an article, and we do not claim teaching credentials we have not shown you.
Drafts are written with the help of AI (Anthropic's Claude). Each draft then goes through the checks below. An article that fails any of them is not published.
Articles published before October 2026 were written before these checks existed. We are rewriting or retiring them; until then they keep their original date.
What every article must pass
- Facts are sourced. Every timing, score rule and test fact is matched to the official ETS, IELTS or IRCC page, and the date we checked it is shown in the Sources section. A sentence we cannot verify is removed.
- Examples are our own. Practice questions and model answers in articles are written for this site. They are never copied from ETS, Cambridge, IDP or British Council materials, and each one is compared automatically against reference texts before it is published.
- No inflated claims. We do not call our content official, authentic or guaranteed, and we do not publish testimonials or success stories.
- An independent review. A separate automated reviewer scores each draft for search intent, accuracy, usefulness, originality and readability. A score below 4 out of 5 on any of these stops the article.
- Technical checks. Titles, links, spelling conventions (US English for TOEFL, UK English for IELTS) and structured data are checked before the page goes live.
How score estimates work
Score and band estimates on this site are estimates, not official results. The free TOEFL test and the free IELTS test each explain how their estimate is calculated and what it cannot tell you. Only ETS and the IELTS partners issue official scores.
Corrections
If you find an error, email support@englishtestpractice.com with the article address. We check the source and update the article, and the "Last updated" date changes when we do.
